  • Outfield High Volume Fly Balls

    DEFENSIVE  (Rookie)

    Purpose:
The more plays or type of plays the players see, the more routine it will become in game situations. The ATEC Rookie machine can deliver a fly ball every 7 seconds. Most typical fly balls take 5 to 8 seconds from bat to glove. Using the ATEC Rookie, you can achieve 200+ fly balls in a 30-minute session when the drill is executed correctly.

    Execution:

Set the Rookie machine (X) at home plate and angle to deliver routine fly balls to all fields. Stack your outfield with all available players (Y) and place them in a rotation to receive the play. Have you infielders (Z) set up to receive the throw and deliver the ball back to the catcher (A), next to the machine (X). Left field will deliver to 3rd base, who will deliver the ball to home. Center field will deliver to SS, who will deliver the ball to home. Right field will deliver to 2nd base, and relay to 3rd, who will deliver the ball home. Timing is the key, launch a new fly ball to the next field once the previous ball has been caught. Keep the infielders moving, and working on accurate cutoffs and proper positioning. Any misplayed ball will result in an ?Eat it? or all stop call, and the drill is reset.

  • Infield Goalie

    DEFENSIVE  (Rookie)

    Purpose:
To increase the range infielders can cover and improve their ability to field ground balls.

    Execution:

Place 2 cones (^), 15ft apart. Set the Rookie up to deliver ground balls. Set Rookie machine (X) up on pitcher plate. Loosen the tripod handle for range of rotation to deliver balls to each side of the cone goal. Have the player (Y) react to both sides, not allowing the balls to go through the cone. Increase the distance between cones, pace, and speed to challenge the players.
